The reserve is world famous for the Annual Wildebeest Migration which was also decalred the 8th Wonder of the world. Every year, over 1. 5 Million Wildebeest and Zebras cross from Serengeti to Maasai Mara in their million and in search of pastures.
During the months between June and October there is plenty of pasture in the plains of Mara. Part of their crossing entails overcoming the obstacle of the crocodile-infested Mara River. It’s a huge spectacle and one to behold, when the Wildebeests and Zebras jump off cliffs into the swollen river, full of hungry crocodiles, and they have to swim across to get to the plains.
The crocodile waylay those that aren’t able to swim fast, the injured and the tired. The best time to catch the spectacle is between the month of July and October. Early bookings are advised so that we are able to get you ‘front seats’ in the wild to enjoy the migration.
November to February also has abundant wildlife. The reserve hosts all the Big five alongside other small and huge mammals as well as birds. Some of these animals are; cheetah, serval, hyena, bat-eared foxes, black-backed and side-striped jackals, hippo, crocodile, baboons, warthog, topi, eland, Thompson’s gazelle, Grant’s gazelle, impala, waterbuck, oribi, reed-buck and zebra.
Some of the activities you can participate in during your stay besides game drives include; nature walks, hot air balloon safari, Maasai village visits, birding and photography. Getting to Maasai Mara is easy by road. Our driver-guides will take you the entire route from Nairobi or any other location within Kenya, as you enjoy scenes across the Kenyan countryside and the Great Rift Valley.
